Dusti Bowling is the author of the award-winning and hugely popular middle-grade novel, Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, which is set at a rundown western theme park in Arizona and features themes of friendship and disability. She will present “From Spark to Story,” in which she will discuss the inspiration for her novels, including Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, 24 Hours in Nowhere, The Canyon’s Edge, and Across the Desert. She will also share writing tips and talk about her path to publication. After that, we will take a short break, and then Ms. Bowling will lead a one-hour writing workshop, entitled “The Importance of Having a Clear Story Goal.” In this workshop, she will discuss why having a strong story goal is crucial to reader interest, and she will lead a fun (and funny) writing activity with the children. Ms. Bowling is also a fellow homeschooler!
